For my fellow U2 enthusiasts, I just stumbled across the first released single from No Line On The Horizon, Get on Your Boots.
I am what's known as a 'hyperlink' and if you click on me I will take you to said single.
I'll leave my reaction as a comment on this post, just so I don't taint anyone's expectations going in. I'm interested to see what others think of it.

I'm not impressed yet. The verse melody and cadence reminds me of 'Wild West' from back in the 80's. Kind of a weird song.
I have high expectations for this album, ever since hearing Brian Eno and others say 'It's the best U2 album ever'.
So far this one feels like HTDAAB reincarnated.
I thought How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb was okay, at best.
Compared to this song, Atomic Bomb is brilliant.
Every time these guys put out a new album, they claim that it's their best ever. But they'll never be able to match what they did on The Joshua Tree or Achtung, Baby! I like Zooropa, Pop, and All That You Can't Leave Behind, but I wish they'd quit trying to tell us that the next album will be their best. It won't.
This song has bad lyrics (much like the previous album). The music in it is uninspired (more so than the previous album). This song sounds like filler or a b-side. It doesn't have nearly the same quality as the first single from a new U2 album usually has.
I'm going to go listen to Achtung, Baby!
Dude, I totally got the Pet Shop Boys-version of "Wild Wild West" vibe too. We should go on a couple dates to see if there's something there. It will all end unhappily when I admit I think U2 is overrated, though.
I've listened to it twice and I can see it growing on me, but it's certainly not immediately accessible. When I first heard Beautiful Day I was floored by old school U2 for the first time in over a decade. I could see this being like The Fly, where it takes a while to warm up. I have high hopes for No Line on the Horizon, but it's going to be very, very different.
ever since "zooropa," i have not been enticed or impressed by the first single released off a new u2 album. vertigo was kind of cool--i guess.
however, i can always count on side b of the lp to have substance. then there's always one throwaway song that i almost always skip: dirty day, if you wear that velvet dress, new york--you know the songs i'm talking about.
this song will probably grow on me due to my predispositions, however i am sure the album will be pretty sweet.
...and they always say "our best one yet!" they've got to slide into denoument at some point. hopefully it's not this time.
in response to sorro: yes, "beautiful day" was a brilliant first-single, so i stand corrected there.
"the fly" has always been a fave of mine. where i am in disagreement with most u2 fans is in the greatness of "mysterious ways." it's pretty good; b+ material.
I've found with U2 that even the songs I don't like at first grow on me until I end up liking them. No other band is like that for me. A good deal of Pop was like that, as was HTDAAB.
I don't want this album to be like that though. I don't want it to fall in the 'I wasn't too impressed at first but it has since grown on me' category. I want it to be like All That You Can't Leave Behind, Actung Baby, and Joshua Tree, where I'm blown away.
Please, Bono. I haven't been blown away for so long.
No matter what though I'm already lining up for tour tickets. Has anyone heard anything yet?
Not ever gonna happen again. Never.
I'm going to go listen to Achtung, Baby!
Or maybe some Floyd.
I know that they're starting their tour in Europe sometime this summer and it involves stadiums rather than arenas. Therefore, for SLC to get a date, it'd have to be autumn, but most likely the next late spring/summer. Nevertheless, and I've already made my wife aware of this, we are going to a U2 tour date that works that's within a 600 mile radius of us.
Get On Your Boots is growing on me, but I'm reserving judgment on the album until I hear it. It was the same way with HTDAAB...I wasn't quite sure about Vertigo, but there were some songs on there that were U2 at their best (City of Blinding Lights, Yahweh, and Miracle Drug).
I'd take Vertigo any day over Get On Your Boots. I liked Vertigo from the moment I heard it.
Oh, and I forgot to mention...
I'm going to go listen to Achtung, Baby!
